I Love New Jersey
Watching Anthony Bourdain’s episode on New Jersey, I realized how much I love my state despite all its warts and ridicule it gets from those on the other side of the Hudson. While I don’t feel Bourdain, a Jersey boy himself, raised in Leonia, did our hometown true justice, it was a slice of the Jersey he knows, and taken for what thats worth, it was nostolgic and heartwarming.
Don’t get me wrong, I love New York, but I do not envy those who have to deal with the MTA combined with this oppressive heat. I can get to most parts of Manhattan quicker than those who live there, with the PATH and the ferry.
I can see myself living in Manhattan at some point but I do love having a place I own, along with a great terrace and plenty of room, a washer, dryer and dishwasher and able to walk to work or hop on the light rail a block away to get to anywhere I want to go, for far less than I’d pay in the city.
I’ve got a great park 4 blocks away, nice neighborhood bars and restaurants in walking distance, and a small town feel where I recognize the faces I see on the street nearly every day.
Oh, and the best part…no tourists!
So while I spend most of my free time in Manhattan, I lay my head here in Hoboken, NJ and I kind of like it that way, at least for now.
HOLLA!!!
